What can you do to prevent spots on your neck?

Although pimples on the back of the neck are not dangerous, it can be cosmetically rewarding to get rid of them.

Teenagers, who may already be struggling with low self-esteem and going through an identity crisis, may see acne as an embarrassing and stressful factor in their lives.

Fortunately, there are options for treating and preventing acne, which you can learn more about here.

Exfoliation of the body

A deep cleansing of blemished skin can have a good effect on pimples. Exfoliating the body moisturises and nourishes the skin, leaving it clean and well cared for.

Body Wash

A thorough cleansing of the body is essential to remove dirt and bacteria that can clog pores and cause spots.

Body Wash is a nourishing body soap with Tea Tree Oil, which fights bacteria and is effective against dirt.

Tea Tree Oil acts as an antiseptic and strengthens your skin's natural defences by cleansing and inhibiting unwanted bacterial growth.

To treat pimples on the neck, we recommend using the soap 1-2 times a day for the first 14 days for best results.

Apply the product to wet skin in circular motions. Massage the product in, especially on the area where you suffer from pimples, and then thoroughly rinse the product off your skin.

Body Scrub

Use a good scrub 1-2 times a week to remove dead skin cells and bacteria and minimise the clogging of sebaceous glands.

Body Scrub is a softening and refreshing scrub. With the antibacterial Tea Tree Oil and extract from crushed apricot seeds, it effectively exfoliates your skin by removing dead skin cells and impurities in your skin's pores.

The product leaves your skin soft, fresh and free from pimples, ingrown hairs, sebaceous buds and blackheads.

Massage the scrub in circular motions on wet skin. Make sure to massage the scrub grains especially on the pimple area. Then rinse off the product and continue with your bath.

Body Lotion

When your skin lacks moisture, it compensates by overproducing sebum, which can cause pimples. That's why it's a good idea to have a moisturising skincare routine.

Body Lotion from Australian Bodycare is a moisturising lotion that softens the skin. With its antibacterial Tea Tree Oil, you can use it especially where you suffer from pimples and impure skin.

The light consistency ensures that the product is quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving your body feeling greasy.

Massage the Body Lotion into the skin, paying special attention to the back of the neck at the hairline to prevent pimples there.

Use the different products combined

You can easily use the products above on their own. But if you want to prevent pimples, blackheads and sebaceous buds, you can use them all together:

  • Wash your body thoroughly with Body Wash
  • Massage Body Scrub into clean skin to remove dead skin cells
  • Apply Body Lotion after bathing - it penetrates even better after a scrub.

Medical treatment

If you are severely affected by acne, you may need hormonal treatment.

In this case, we recommend that you seek help from a dermatologist who can prescribe prescription creams, ointments or pills to treat your acne.

Contraceptive pills

Some women find that the contraceptive pill helps with acne. As the contraceptive pill is a hormonal product, it can have a good effect on a hormonal skin condition such as acne.

We recommend that you ask your doctor for advice.

Other good tips for avoiding spots

  • Thoroughly cleanse your face morning and night to get rid of dead skin cells.
  • Avoid hair products that can cause pimples on the back of the neck at the hairline.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat a healthy and varied diet.
  • Get help for stress or depression - see your doctor if necessary.

What are pimples in the neck?

Pimples are skin blemishes characterised by red swellings or yellowish pus. They are caused by an excess of sebum (skin fat) under the skin, produced by the sebaceous glands.

The purpose of sebum is to moisturise the skin and hair so that it does not dry out. If too much is produced, the gland becomes clogged because the sebum cannot reach the surface of the skin.

This blockage makes the gland vulnerable to impurities and bacteria that cause inflammation and turn into pimples.

Why do pimples show up at the hairline?

Pimples can appear anywhere on the body.

They are most common where the skin tends to be the most oily and where we have the most sebaceous glands and hair follicles, such as on the face.

Therefore, it is not uncommon to suffer from pimples on the back of the neck at the hairline.

There are several reasons why you get pimples on the back of your neck or elsewhere on your body. Find out more about the causes here.

Hormonal skin condition

Pimples are a hormonal skin condition. This means that a disturbance in the hormonal balance can cause spots.

When extra hormones are produced, extra sebum is produced in the hair follicle / sebaceous gland, which becomes clogged.

This is why teenagers are particularly affected by spots, because more hormones are produced during puberty.

Women are particularly affected during pregnancy or menstruation, when the hormonal balance is disturbed.

Medication can also affect the production of hormones in your body.

When hormone balance is affected, the body's oil production increases, which contributes to breakouts. It can also happen in the context of depression or stress.

Genetic reasons

Pimples is highly hereditary. This means that you are more likely to get acne if your parents have suffered from it.

However, you may benefit from knowing this because you can start preventive treatment right away.

Hairproducts and makeup

Chemicals in your hairspray can contribute to an excess of oil and skin reactions that cause pimples.

Wearing make-up can also accumulate oils that are not natural to the body. Not washing foundation off your face before going to bed can clog pores and cause breakouts.

Therefore, it is recommended to have a thorough hygiene regime, regularly washing your hair and skin to prevent an excess of oils from building up.
