What is squalane?

It is a special moisturising fat. And your skin is quite familiar with it – the sebaceous glands in your own skin produce squalane.

In other words, it is part of the natural production of sebum in the skin. But production drops gradually as you get older. At birth, there is 12 % squalane in the skin surface, but by the end of the 20s the level is already noticeably reduced.

Today, squalane is extracted from plant species such as sugar cane and olives.

What is squalane used for?

It is now used in a diversity of skin-care products such as creams, oils, lip balms, serums and pure squalane products.

Squalane oil – nourishment and moisture

Squalane oil is vital in your beauty care if your skin is thirsty for moisture and nourishment. Try Australian Bodycare Squalane Serum, which is intensely moisturising for your face.

Serum with squalane gives your skin a unique combination of nourishing boosters for moisture, and brings tired, dry skin back to life. It is especially suitable for improving the appearance of:

The oil brings intense moisture and elasticity to your skin. Use it as a daily boost of moisture: apply a couple of drops on clean, dry skin twice a day – whether it is your body or your face that needs moisture and tender care. Massage the oil thoroughly into the skin and allow it to dry for a moment.

Squalane serum and cream

This super-moisturiser is also widespread in creams and serums that help dry skin to regain its correct level of moisture

Why not try Australian Bodycare Squalane Serum? It is a serum specially formulated to saturate dry and dehydrated skin, and has a unique capacity for quenching your skin’s thirst, so that it looks healthier and more supple.

Apply a few drops of serum immediately after cleansing the skin, and massage it in with gentle circular movements. You can finish off with a squalane cream to boost the moisture level even further.

However, it is important to use the serum before your day or night cream. The cream forms a natural layer over the skin, so if you use cream first, the nourishing and moisturising care from the serum will not penetrate deep into the skin.

How is squalane effective for your skin?

Squalane is a real wonder cure in skin care if you have dry, tired skin that needs moisture. It provides a soothing boost of moisture and helps to make the surface resilient, smooth and even

At the same time it prevents drying and forms a protective layer over your skin.

This will not only make your skin look healthy, glowing and strong – it also forms the ideal base for applying makeup. Skin saturated with moisture will give you better results with your make-up, because powder or foundation will spread more easily without smudging or forming dry patches.

How does squalane feel on your skin?

Even though squalane is a nourishing oil, it will not feel greasy or heavy on your skin – which other oils may tend to do.

Why not?

This is primarily because of its light, unique molecular structure, which the skin recognises, because it resembles the skin’s own cell membranes. The skin then absorbs the product fast, so it does not feel greasy at all.

Why are squalane and moisture important for your skin?

Now you have probably understood that squalane is a vital ingredient in your personal skin care, but what precisely makes it so important?

The reason is that healthy skin is moisturised skin.

Your skin is the largest organ of your body and forms a barrier against ‘threats’ from outside. Dry, dehydrated skin is more vulnerable to attacks, and is not such a strong barrier. So your skin must be moisturised, soft and elastic.

Supple, moisturised skin can stretch more without puncturing – and this makes it far more resistant, so that infections cannot penetrate.

You can compare your skin with brickwork. The skin cells are the bricks that form the façade, and the moisture in the skin is the mortar that keeps them together. If the wall begins to crack, damage can occur far more easily than if the wall is intact.

The same applies to the barrier formed by your skin. If it begins to crack, it is important to repair it, and keep damage out.

You can do that first and foremost with lots of moisture.
