What is AHA peeling?

An AHA peel is a chemical exfoliation - an acid that you apply to your skin.

It is a very common acid peel, consisting of fruit acids such as glycolic acid and lactic acid. The name is an abbreviation of Alpha Hydroxy Acid. It is a group of substances that originate from fruit and vegetables, such as lemons, and are therefore known as fruit acids.

What effect does AHA peeling have on the skin?

You've probably come across many skincare products that can all help you achieve healthier skin.

But the AHA fruit acid peel stands out from the other exfoliating products on the market because it's the fruit acids that do the work.

AHA acids stimulate cell renewal in the skin, exfoliate and stimulate collagen in the skin. At the same time, they minimise the risk of age spots, wrinkles, acne and uneven skin texture.

By exfoliating with AHA fruit acid peels, you loosen dead skin cells and even out skin pigmentation and tone. It will remove the signs of ageing, giving you a more youthful appearance without pores and acne.

AHA-acids

The most common and well-known AHA acids are glycolic, mandelic acid and citric acid. You can find out more about them below

Glycolic acid

Glycolic acid is typically found in sugar cane and is the best-known AHA. It triggers skin cell renewal, exfoliates old skin cells and minimises wrinkles and lines.

Does your skin show visible signs of ageing? Or do you suffer from pigmentation and acne? Glycolic acid is particularly suitable for such cases, as well as normal skin. The molecular size of the acid allows it to penetrate easily into the skin, where it will ensure a thorough exfoliation.

Mandelic acid

Mandelic acid is fat-soluble and therefore particularly suitable for skin that tends to become oily. If you suffer from acne, mandelic acid is also effective against it.

Citric acid

Citric acid has a powerful antioxidant effect. It is a huge help when it comes to managing and preventing sun-damaged and ageing skin.

Effective exfoliation

AHA fruit acid is mainly used to exfoliate your skin. Here, the skin cells on the surface fall off and you get rid of the dead skin cells. This makes room for the generation of new skin cells.

As you get older, your skin's natural cell cycle slows down. This can result in dead skin cells accumulating, making your skin look dull and lacklustre. It can also increase the appearance of wrinkles, age spots and acne - but if you use AHA fruit acid peeling, you can get rid of all those problems.

Renew the natural glow of your skin

As the fruit acids exfoliate your skin and break down your dead skin cells, you get brighter and more glowing skin. With the help of glycolic acid, among others, the accumulation of skin cells is broken down, while citric acid brightens the skin and gives it more lustre.

Increased production of collagen

You may have heard of collagen before. It's a protein that's incredibly important for your body's cartilage and bones. Collagen is formed in skin cells and ensures that the collagen in connective tissue keeps your skin elastic and firm, and that your skin retains a youthful and smooth appearance.

The protein-rich fibres break down as you age and when you get sunburnt. This can result in soft and sagging skin.

By using AHA serums, you can boost collagen production by destroying the old collagen fibres and making room for the new ones, so your skin can stay plumper and smoother.

This is how you go about it

The serum is easy to add to your regular cleansing routine. We recommend using it 2-3 times a week.

Start by thoroughly cleansing your face with our Face Wash.

Then wipe your cleansed face - you can use Face Tonic from Australian Bodycare with a cotton pad and then give your tonic a moment to dry.

Finally, apply a few drops of exfoliating serum to your clean skin and massage in. Leave the serum to absorb for about 30 minutes and finish with a layer of protective face cream.

It is very individual how often you should use the serum. For some, 2-3 times a week is sufficient, while others use it less often. It's all about trial and error and seeing what works best for your skin.

We recommend that you use the serum in the evening, so that your skin can get used to the product during the night. This will avoid a reaction such as slight redness when you use the product for the first few times.

Chemical AHA-peeling

With the help of AHA fruit acid, your skin will get a little boost, removing the outer layer of skin. This exfoliation removes the dead skin cells and at the same time stimulates the formation of new skin cells.

The older you get, the slower the renewal of skin cells in your body. With a chemical peel, you can improve and renew your skin on your face, neck, chest, hands, arms or legs.

In addition, a chemical peel moisturises, soothes and tightens the skin and minimises the risk of inflammation, pore size, scars, spots, pimples or blackheads.

Chemical AHA fruit acid peeling can improve, among other things:

  • Uneven pigmentation on the skin
  • Age spots
  • Sun damage
  • Flaky skin
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Freckles
  • Acne
  • Scars

After an AHA chemical peel, your skin may turn a little red. If this happens, you can benefit from using Blemish Serum from Australian Bodycare, which ensures an even skin tone and a beautiful skin in collaboration with AHA serum.

Remember sunscreen, when you use AHA serum

AHA peels make your skin more sensitive to the sun and more susceptible to sun damage. That's why we recommend that you remember to use sun cream daily - especially after an AHA peel.

Aloe Vera Gel from Australian Bodycare cares for and nourishes your skin. It also has a positive and soothing effect on sunburnt, dry and dehydrated skin, as well as burning and itching.

The product contains a wide range of vitamins, minerals and amino acids as well as Tea Tree Oil, which is suitable for many skin problems such as itching or sunburn.
